As promised here is my Friday post. I’m pleased with this weeks progress on the underpainting. Simply establishing the general tonal range and lighting in the image. Overall most of the areas are a bit dark as I need this to contrast with the highlights of grass and branches in the background. I have also very roughly painted in the leopard to have an idea of basic colouration. This will be hugely refined later. At the moment it just helps with my judgment of the overall lighting in the painting. This stage of the painting goes quite quickly but the detail will slow me down. I hope you all have had a good week.
Below in this painting I am establishing the larger areas of light and dark. I really enjoy the subtle violet grey in the background in this painting, so typical of the imagery of Africa.
